McKinney York Architects Announces New Associate

McKinney York Architects is pleased to announce our newest Associate: Travis Lucy, AIA. After joining the firm in 2008, Travis has effectively guided several projects from programming and conceptual design through construction administration and close-out, including large institutional projects like the Ministry Activity Center at Lake Travis United Methodist Church. He presently is overseeing the construction at the Jackson School of Geosciences on the University of Texas at Austin campus. Travis demonstrates the quality of leadership and work ethic embodied by the spirit of our firm: to craft beautiful, responsible architecture in a culture of creative collaboration. Join us for the 2011 AIA Austin Homes Tour, October 1 – 2, 2011; a self-guided tour of 15 Architect-designed homes in the Austin Area. This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the tour, which has earned a regional and national reputation. McKinney York Architects was featured on the inaugural tour in 1986 and is proud to open the Cuernavaca House to the public this year as well. DWR to tour the McGarrah Jessee building

Join Design Within Reach for a private event, Thursday March 3rd 6pm, at the Starr Building. McGarrah Jessee, a longtime DWR client and bright star in the advertising world, recently moved into their new home, the former American National Bank building in downtown Austin. Built in 1954, the space has an original Florence Knoll interior, and is home to both a restored Seymour Fogel mural and the first motorized escalators in Austin. Bryan Jessee will share an overview of McKinney York’s renovation and point out features of the new space; Bobby Cadwallader, CEO of Knoll Worldwide from 1970 to 1980, will present an anecdotal history of the company and discuss Florence Knoll Bassett’s groundbreaking work in commercial interior planning; and local mid-century modernist art historian Robert Summers will talk about the mural that is the centerpiece of the completed renovation. Wine will be served.

Design Commission approves design for African American cultural center

Heather McKinney to Juror at the 2010 Topping Out Awards

Founding Principal Heather McKinney has been asked to participate as a Juror at the 2010 Topping Out Awards. Topping Out 2010 will be held at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas on May 13th. For more information please visit www.toppingout.org .

McKinney York teams up with Perkins+Will on the UT Austin McCombs School of Business Strategic Master Plan

This high-profile project drew competition from across the country and is an essential step in achieving the School’s goal of becoming one of the most prominent business schools in the world.

McKinney York Architects to participate in Open Architecture

We’ll have some presentations of our work in the form of photography slideshows, renderings, drawings, and electronic building models. Stop by for some apple cider and good conversation!

McKinney York Architects Launch New Website

Although it has been up and running for a few weeks, our new website officially launches today. The new site is a significant upgrade from the old one, featuring large project images, Google location maps, and in some cases integrated video. Check out the Robbs Run House and the Leander Transit Facility for a few video samples. In addition to project information, we also have an upgraded news page, complete with a Twitter feed. In the future, we will be posting construction and design progress images on Twitter as well as items of general interest to Architects and fans of the design industry.
