‘Striking a Balance’ Panel

This weekend at the 2011 TSA Convention, Heather McKinney participated in a panel discussion entitled “Striking Career, Family and Life Balance.” She was joined by Val Glitsch, FAIA of Houston, Betsy del Monte, FAIA from The Beck Group, and Elizabeth Chu Richter, FAIA from Richter Architects. Together they spoke of overcoming the challenge of life/practice issues of being a female architect.

New Artists Wanted for Public Art Project

The City of Austin is looking for emerging artists interested in embellishing the outdoor courtyard of the future African-American Cultural and Heritage Facility, designed by McKinney York Architects. It will be the anchor of the newly-established African American Cultral Heritage District in the East 11th Street area.

2010 TSA Convention

The annual convention for the Texas Society of Architects exemplified a busy, but rewarding year for 2010 President, Heather McKinney. She addressed a packed house of members from a variety of industry roles and responsibilities to both celebrate and recognize the convention’s theme “Purpose.” Purposeful architecture was highlighted through tours, seminars, and workshops.

McKinney York Architects will be participating in “OPEN ARCHITECTURE” this Saturday, which is a self-guided tour of 18 East Austin Architecture studios. All proceeds benefit Uplift Austin. We’ll have some presentations of our work in the form of photography slideshows, renderings, drawings, and electronic building models. Stop by for some apple cider and good conversation!

Inspired by the iconic modernist Kaufmann House, artist Erin Curtis pays homage to — and questions — the idea of perfection in her exhibition, Perspective Threshold. Using this show as a point of reference, a panel including Burton Baldridge, Judy Birdsong, Cindy Black, Nicole Blair, Assoc. AIA, Camille Urban Jobe, AIA, Kasey McCarty & Michelle Rossomando, AIA will investigate how architecture both dictates and responds to the way we wish to live in the world. Michelle Rossomando chairs YouthLaunch Annual Service Awards

McKinney York Architects joins six other firms in the exhibit “Art in Architecture” at the Inspiration Gallery at Riverbend Church in Austin. McKinney York’s featured work includes sketches, photographs, and models from the Mount Barker Residence, the Robbs Run Residence, the Leander Transit Facility, Riverbend Church’s Smith Family Chapel, and the recently completed East Patio Renovation at the Texas Union.
