In order to celebrate the New Year and reaffirm our commitment to sustainability, McKinney York Architects has offset our carbon footprint for 2010. Using NativeEnergy Software, our footprint was calculated based on our facility, servers, employee travel & commute, shipping and waste. Our offset supports a special blend of projects for Native Energy, including a donation to Clean Air-Cool Planet for permanent retirement.

Filming for HGTV begins

Constant Springs will be featured on HGTV’s Bang for Your Buck, a television show which compares the remodeling choices of three homeowners from the same city who have renovated the same room with the same budget. Filming begins November 10 and the episode will air during the 2011 season. Details to follow.

Constant Springs Residence is featured as a case study (and cover project) for Green Remodeling: Down-to-Earth Solutions for Everyday Homes, a guidebook for eco-friendly renovations. The book is available online September 27th and expected in bookstores on October 12th.

Our newly renovated office building in East Austin (we relocated last year) is discussed in the July/August issue of Residential Architect magazine. The article is titled “Workspace: McKinney York Architects” and it discusses some of the sustainable aspects of the design and construction of the project. The article can also be seen online.

McKinney York Architects Wins Four Design Awards

The firm had an exciting day, receiving four design awards at the annual AIA Austin Gala. The evening ceremony was held at the Texas Memorial Museum on the University of Texas at Austin campus. In addition, the firm was awarded AIA Austin’s highest honor, the Firm Acheivement Award, which is awarded in recognition of overall achievement. The four projects that received design awards were the Leander Park & Ride, Austin City Loft, Constant Springs Residence, and the Waco Residence.

The AIA Austin design competition seeks to recognize outstanding architectural projects by members and to promote public interest in architectural excellence. The jury met on February 17th at the Chapter office and reviewed sixty-nine entries from local firms. The Design Award jury was made up of: Frank Harmon, FAIA of Raleigh, N. Carolina; Dror Baldinger, AIA of San Antonio, Texas; and, Maryann Thompson, AIA of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
