Kinsolving Dormitory Renovations and Additions

The University of Texas at Austin

Renovations and additions to this 1955 residence hall aimed to update public spaces, add modern amenities, and create welcoming shared spaces to encourage community. Projects completed over four years include the main lobby renovation; two additions requiring compliance with the campus master plan; exterior ramps and stairs for building code and accessibility compliance; and building fire-suppression system, roof replacement, and landscape improvements. Sophisticated upgrades to the lobby feature terrazzo flooring, stained wood paneling, and stone countertops. Additions include a 100-seat dining room and 7,000 square feet of student amenities including a multi-purpose room, study rooms, entertainment room, and hall directors' offices. The additions draw upon the scale and color palette of the original building to create a cohesive whole. All projects were completed when the building was occupied over short summer session schedules.
