About

Olmos Park Residence

Austin, Texas

The owners of this residence desired a new wing that would complete a courtyard and provide a study, archive room, and ground floor bath, all with pool terrace vistas. Since the owners hope to remain in this home into their retirement years, McKinney York incorporated the principles of universal design with features such as three foot wide doors, a walk-in shower, and other accesible bathroom features. The addition, employing soothing and muted colors, wood floors, painted exterior brick, a copper roof, and a large divided window overlooking the pool area, is integrated seamlessly with the existing 1930s architecture. Rounding out the design are new flagstone pavers, a resurfaced pool, and new landscaping for the client, an avid gardener.
