Project Details

The form and materiality of this new 4,000 sq ft residence embrace the land and outdoor living. Steps away from Zilker Park, the main house is sited along the northwest edge of the property to maximize the open outdoor space and to create a natural park-like setting of its own. The spaces are organized along a central spine beginning at the entry porch and moving through the main living spaces, along the outdoor living areas, terminating at the detached garage with an upstairs art studio. This linear arrangement of rooms is carefully threaded between several heritage pecan and elm trees. The softly sculpted stone exterior juxtaposed with burned wood and steel cladding recede among the natural surroundings. The roofline extends outward to protect from sun and rain while soaring upward towards views of towering trees and downtown skyscrapers. The pool is strategically placed between the house and a large grove of trees to maximize exposure to sun and sky. Perched at one end, a screen porch pavilion looks out over the pool to the expansive yard.  Sustainable features of the house include high efficiency mechanical and lighting systems, photovoltaic panels, and a rainwater collection system with buried storage tanks used for irrigation.
