Grace Episcopal Church West Campus

  • rendering of a modern minimal church's pew isle

Project Details

The creation of a new campus for Grace Episcopal Church West offers the opportunity for one spiritual community to continue to worship in two distinct locations: their original, traditional campus in Georgetown and a new home for the west campus in a rapidly developing suburb 20 minutes away.

The idea of “two campuses, one congregation” is the heart of the design concept, which draws on a timeless sense of sacred places while also being approachable and embracing. This duality is expressed architecturally in a thick-walled sanctuary contrasted by modern classrooms and airy, cloister-like walkways. The asymmetrical forms and plan provide the first pieces of the new campus – comprised of a permanent worship space, classrooms, and auxiliary spaces – all of which can be organically expanded to meet future growth needs.
