Lake Austin Overlook

Project Details

This stunning lake house offers dramatic views of Pennybacker Bridge and the sparkling water of the Colorado River. This extensive remodel involved rigorous editing of all superfluous elements from the original house, creating a clean backdrop for the client’s unique collection of modern art. The art is framed by the architecture and lighting such that it is experienced in a choreographed, curated way that encourages occupants to wander and develop an intimate connection with each piece.

The mood is set in the entry courtyard, where a floating walkway curves down and around a brilliant blue Clement sculpture. The walkway pauses in a moment of surprise when the first view through the house shows the blue water beyond. Inside, the saturated colors of the artwork are balanced by an absence of visual clutter.

This is a very specific place, designed for a one-of-a-kind collection and its collector, who has a close relationship with each piece.
