Robert D. Moreton Building Renovation

  • A building's large conference room.

Project Details

Due to a systemic failure of the exterior envelope, the Texas Facilities Commission initiated this renovation project to the Robert D. Moreton (RDM) Building. RDM is a seven-story office building of approximately 128,000 square feet with 539 occupants in private offices and open workstation areas. The interior architecture and space planning scope of work consisted of interior modifications for the executive offices and board room, replacement of all interior finishes, restroom and entry accessibility compliance, life safety compliance, and MEP upgrades to produce a high performance building. The seventh floor was redesigned to better accommodate the operations of the commissioners, executives and other departments that occupied the top floor and to admit more natural light to interior spaces by adding glass walls. The board room was relocated to the ground floor for easier access by the public. The color palette was unified throughout the building and finishes were upgraded to durable, timeless materials appropriate for a state office building. Our role included the management of the office move coordination of 750 people with furniture from the seven floors of RDM as well as several other DSHS buildings to temporary quarters; almost all have been repositioned back to permanent quarters since the interior space modifications were completed.
