Through Her Lens: The Photojournalism of Diana Walker

scroll View Project Description

Project Details

Highlighting the career of one of the country’s preeminent photojournalists, this exhibit at the Briscoe Center for American History features photographs and archival materials from the Diana Walker Photographic Archive. The exhibit design subdivides the Main Gallery into quadrants using four diagonal walls, positioned to mimic the shape of crosshairs in a camera viewfinder. When viewed from the exhibit entry, these angled walls frame a supergraphic showcasing nearly 100 portraits of politicians, celebrities, business leaders, and journalists. At the center of the quadrant a panoramic view of the entire gallery unfolds, allowing visitors to see the entirety of the retrospective exhibit. Neutral wall colors were chosen to complement the diversity of objects on display: black and white photographs, color photographs, press badges, book covers, letters, camera equipment, and more. The exhibit encourages visitors to see through Walker’s lens, opening the door to unscripted events and private moments in recent American political and cultural life.
